One of the fastest
growing segments of book publishing is health related
books. Those avaialable range from the superlative to
the outrageous. Some are extremely helpful while others
revert back to telling us it's "all in our heads." Our
book reviews will help you tell the difference.
Review: Living Well with Autoimmune
Disease
Times have changed. No longer do all
patients meekly accept what one doctor tells them,
especially when the diagnosis and its consequences are
serious. More and more, patients are educating
themselves, becoming active participants in their own
health care. With books such as "Living Well with
Autoimmune Disease" and committed authors like Mary J.
Shomon, this patient strategy is becoming easier.
Review: Handbook of Headache, Second
Edition, Evans and Mathew; from About Headaches and
Migraine
This book was
supposedly written for doctors. However, having met Dr.
Evans and knowing his dedication to patient education, I
read the book and found what I expected. He and Dr.
Mathew have written a book that's also quite appropriate
for patients on a quest for education. A good medical
dictionary will be helpful, but don't let that stop you.
Review: Migraines and Other Headaches,
Young and Silberstein.
Five stars to
"Migraine and Other Headaches" by William B. Young and
Stephen D. Silberstein. The first of a quality-of-life
series from the American Academy of Neurology, this book
is a great educational resource for anyone who suffers
headaches and Migraines of anyone who doesn't, but cares
about someone who does.
Review: Understanding Migraine and
Other Headaches (Tepper)
We all need some
good books about headaches and Migraine in our
libraries. The newly released "Understanding Migraine
and Other Headaches" is a quite worthy addition to
anyone's library. Written "for general readers," the
book is, "a comprehensive overview of causes, diagnoses,
and treatments" written in a logical, easy flowing
style. You'll find it complete, up-to-date, and easy to
understand.
Review: The MemoryMinder Personal
Health Journal
I often emphasize the
importance of maintaining a headache and Migraine diary.
However, there are times when we'd like to keep more
information than can be conveniently recorded on the
type of diary page that is simple for our doctors to
review and analyze. I was using a blank journal for that
purpose until I came across the "MemoryMinder Personal
Health Journal" by MemoryMinder Journals, Inc.
